In a remarkable initiative that celebrated unity in diversity, HUM Charitable Trust, in collaboration with Omkar International School, successfully organized a short-term home stay program for 31 students from Jammu and Kashmir. These students, from Standards V to X of Katra Chatravas, were warmly hosted by the families of 12 students from Omkar’s ICSE, CBSE, and SSC boards. Our ever-enthusiastic Manas More of Class 10 Rose was one among them.
The program beautifully aligned with the spirit of Gudi Padwa, Maharashtra’s New Year, allowing the visiting students to witness and participate in the Shobhayatra on 30th March, a vibrant display of tradition, music, and community pride. The essence of Gudi Padwa — new beginnings, cultural richness, and festive joy — was not only experienced but also thoughtfully explained by host families, creating moments of wonder and connection.
The students arrived on 29th March, and were officially welcomed and handed over to host families at Sarvesh Hall. The following morning, parents dropped the students at Sister Nivedita School, where a sports event featuring football and cricket fostered joyful interactions and community bonding. Parents too participated, turning the event into a festival of friendship and fun.
In the inaugural meeting, the trustee of HUM Charitable Trust emphasized the program’s guidelines and the importance of mutual respect, discipline, and cultural appreciation. The synergy between the host families, students, and the Trust ensured a smooth and memorable experience.
This unique exchange left lasting impressions — for the children of Jammu and Kashmir, it was a glimpse into the vibrant soul of Maharashtra; and for the host families, it was a heart-touching journey of hospitality, learning, and shared joy. The program concluded with heartfelt thanks from the Trust and enthusiastic support from all parents involved.
It wasn’t just a stay — it was a celebration of India’s unity, tradition, and togetherness.
